Astrantia Star of Beauty – Masterwort
Wonderful, tiny white, pincushion flowers with magenta-purple tips are crowded together in a dome shaped flower cluster – hence the pincushion reference, These are surrounded by a collar of coloured bracts and carried on wiry, branched stems above deeply divided, dark green leaves. This Astrantia is one of the best varieties around, with large flowerheads and more deeply cut foliage than some.Like all Astrantia, it can cope with a range of soils from alkaline to heavy, damp soil in dappled shade. Astrantia’s have been cultivated in Britain since the 16th century and have numerous common names, such as melancholy gentleman, Hattie’s pincushion and the more well known Great Masterwort. Flowering from June to the end of summer, these are a lovely hardy and reliable perennial to have and enjoy year after year. Supplied in approx. 4.5 litre containers.
