Viburnum plicatum Watanabe – Japanese Snow Bush

Viburnum ‘Watanabe’ is a real gardener’s delight. It has a fairly compact conical growing habit and forms a very attractive overall shape, similar to the Cornus alternifolia Argentea, with many different ‘tiers’ of branches being formed. It is a deciduous shrub, the green leaves take on stunning hues of gorgeous red and bronze over Autumn prior to falling for the Winter period. On the arrival of Spring, a fantastic display of pure white lace-cap flowers are produced and completely smother every tier of the shrub in clouds of blossom. This can last for some months as blooms can be continually produced right up until early Autumn.Viburnum plicatum can reach a height of around 2 metres after 10-15 years, and is well worth being allowed to grow to this by limiting any pruning.
