Eriophorum angustifolium – Cotton Grass
Known as Cotton grass for a reason as its white hairy flower heads make it very distinct. These flowers appear in summer on thin green stem like leaves that are clump forming, spreading and vigorous and love being in wet boggy conditions.Ideal plant for waterlogging soils or on the banks of a pond. Cotton grass makes for an impressive site if planted in drifts in a good sunny position, particularly when displaying their distinct flowers which will gently nod in the breeze.Avoid a north facing position for Eriophorum as they might dislike cold wind, but they are capable of having their roots in up to five centimetres of water.
